Claim Refugee Protection in Canada

Specialized Services for Refugee Claim in Canada

Some Canadians who fear persecution or would face risk if they had to leave are granted refugee status. Torture, a risk to their lives, and cruel and unusual treatment or punishment are some threats they may encounter.

If you believe you may face one of these hazards if you return to your home country or the country where you typically live, you may be qualified to seek refugee protection in Canada. WestWide Immigration Services will cater to you throughout your application process, right from document verification to choosing the best program for attaining refugee claims.

After landing in Canada, file your claim online using the Canadian Refugee Protection Portal. You are not required to resubmit a claim if you have previously submitted one. To file your claim online, you will need a scanner or camera to make electronic copies of your documentation.

You will also need to set up an online account, which will allow you to submit your claim and track its progress. If unable to file your claim online after arriving in Canada, you can submit your refugee claim on paper from within Canada.

As the name describes, Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) is an electronically linked entry pass eligible for short-term visits to Canada. ETA is attached to the passport of a visa-exempt foreign traveler valid for five years or till the date of your passport's expiry period.

The electronic pass allows you to travel to Canada multiple times but not more than six months at once. However, if you're traveling within Canada, the ETA is not mandatory.

Threats in Canada

You must be a foreigner who fears persecution, is in great danger of violence, and cannot find asylum in your own home country, and this has led you to seek sanctuary in Canada.

Must be on Canadian land

People who arrive at a Canadian point of entry or are already in Canada can seek refugee status by filing a refugee claim with the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada. The IRB is an impartial administrative tribunal that determines whether a claimant is eligible for refugee status.

No removal order

When someone is convicted of violating Canada's Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, a removal order is issued. The Removal Order will become null and invalid if you become a permanent resident of Canada. If your asylum application is denied, the Removal Order will take effect.

Financial sufficiency of sponsor

Each group member who contributes financially, as well as the entire group, must demonstrate that they have the financial means to assist the sponsored refugee(s) for the duration of the sponsorship period (usually 12 months from the time of arrival in Canada).
